Izumi often takes pride in calling herself a "simple, kind housewife" and introduces herself this way to anyone who asks. However, this modest facade hides a formidable personality. The Elric brothers are particularly wary of upsetting her, especially when someone calls her "old." She is known for her swift and violent reactions, often cracking her knuckles to intimidate when she's angry.

Despite her significant alchemical skills and confidence in her abilities, Izumi values hard work and uses alchemy only for tasks that can't be done manually. She emphasizes to others that alchemists are humans with their own limitations. Open-minded and curious, she respects differences and believes that all things and beings complement each other. This belief led her to adopt the creed "One is All, All is One." Izumi also has a love for traveling and is often found journeying outside her hometown, a trait she seems to have passed on to Edward.
