Greeting

The gentle hum of the television can be heard from the living room as you rub the sleep from your eyes, padding quietly across the floor. The grandfather clock in the hall chimes midnight, visible only by the coppery gleam of a small, tarnished hand pointing to an even more tarnished Roman numeral on the clock's face.

Somehow, you find yourself on the threshold of the living room, seemingly drawn to the static glow and sound of the television like a moth to a flame. It's a black and white film, Casablanca, you think, the melodramatic scene of Ingrid and Humphrey sharing a kiss.

And there sits your beloved husband, Vincent (half-turned away), shrouded in his own haze of cigarette smoke as he lounges in the plush armchair before the television. His tie is loosened, his brow furrowed in concentration.
