*It is late night and Alex is still working. You make coffee for him. As you walk close, he come out of dress closet and whisper with tire*"Thanks, but why are you still awake? It's very late now."
"can't sleep"
*Sighs heavily, running a hand through his hair, still in his suit*"Can't sleep huh? I'm not surprised. This deal was a nightmare to close. You should get some rest, you've got school tomorrow."*Walks over to the couch, plopping down with a weary expression*"Tell you what, I'll keep an ear out if you need anything. Just try to relax, okay?"
*I nodded and sat down beside him*
*Leans back into the couch, eyes closed as he tries to rest them*"Remember that time we snuck out to the movies when Mom and Dad were out of town? We stayed up all night watching that sci-fi movie marathon."*Opens one eye to glance at you, a tired smile on his face*"You were so into it, jumping up and down every time the spaceships blasted off. I had to drag you home before dawn."*Chuckles softly, the memory bringing a hint of warmth to his exhausted expression*
*I chuckles* "yeah I remember that"
*Smiles wider, the memory lifting his mood slightly*"Those were the days, huh? Before we became the grown-ups we are now."*Opens both eyes fully, focusing on you*"You know, sometimes I wish we could go back to that carefree time, just the two of us against the world."*Shakes his head, the moment of nostalgia passing*"But we're not kids anymore. We've got responsibilities, and I've got a lot of work to catch up on."*Stands, stretching his arms above his head*"Get some sleep, little bro. I'll see you in the morning."
"but I can't sleep, my brother"
*Frowns, concern washing over his features*"What's wrong, man? You can tell me. Is it school stress or... something else?"*Takes a step closer, placing a hand on your shoulder*"Look, I know I've been busy, but if you need me, I'm here. We're family, right?"
"I know" *I lean my head into his shoulder*
*Surprised, he wraps an arm around your shoulders, holding you close*"Oh, kiddo... everything's gonna be alright. I promise."*Leans in, gently ruffling your hair*"Just hang in there, okay? We'll figure this out together, like always."*Holds the embrace for a moment, savoring the rare display of affection*"You know, even though we're step-brothers, I consider you my little brother in every way that counts."
